Mission Statement
The aim of this website is to clarify the belief of Ahl al Sunnah wal Jama’ah in light of the many lies, objections, refutations and attempts to sow doubt about its ways. It aims to give concise answers and clarification to all such attempts, with links to longer articles for those who wish. This is not only to benefit the readers’ knowledge, but to make it easy for Sunni Muslims to engage in internet forums to defend their beliefs.
Background
It is hidden from no one that for the longest time the traditional ulema of Ahl al Sunnah wal Jama’ah, particularly those of the Ashari and Maturidi schools, and their creedal/theological positions have been under constant attack. Attacks on the ulema and their positions is expected from people who make clear who they are and what they believe in. This has been the experience of the ulema when dealing with any Islamic sect. However, when people who pose themselves as “Sunnis” take charge of these attacks, then the situation is more dangerous. A person who grows up in a Sunni household, doing all the things that Sunnis have traditionally done and believing everything that Sunnis believe is not likely to listen to anyone who is not Sunni. However, when some people pose themselves as “Sunnis” while at the same time advocating their twisted interpretations of the deen in an effort to gain followers to their twisted cause, an unsuspecting Sunni is more likely to give such a person his ear.
Given the above situation, it is clear that something needs to be done. Our beloved Habeeb al Mustafa Sayyiduna Muhammad sall allahu `alayhi wasallam said:
من رَأَى مِنْكُمْ مُنْكَرًا فَلْيُغَيِّرْهُ بيده فَإِنْ لم يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِلِسَانِهِ فَإِنْ لم يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِقَلْبِهِ وَذَلِكَ أَضْعَفُ الْإِيمَانِ
“Whoever among you sees something disapproved of by Allah, let him change it by his hand. If unable, then let him do so by His tongue. If unable to do even that, let Him reject it in his heart, and that is the least (act) of faith. ” (Muslim No. 49).
In light of this hadith, a group of brothers under the guidance of Shaykh Abu Adam have set up this blog. The primary aim of this blog is to clarify the beliefs of the ulema of Ahl al Sunnah wal Jama’ah and exonerate them from the many objections and doubts that exist about them. This is not only to benefit the readers, in their knowledge, but also to make it easy for those Sunni Muslims to defend their beliefs when they engage with others on internet forums. In particular, this blog will face up to the heretical idea that Allah is a being with one or more limits, wal `iyadhu billah.
Our Creed
Know that Aļļaah is Necessarily Existent without a beginning or an end
Non-resemblant to anything or anyone in any sense
Self Existent and does not need a specifier for Him or His attributes, or something to be in
One without a partner, part or like in His Self, attributes or actions
Only He can create, and all that happens is according to His Will and Predestination
Sound reason tells us that He must be attributed with the Power to bring anything possible into existence, the Will to specify how it is to be, and Knowledge of all that is now, has been in the past, and will be in the future, as well as all that must be, cannot be, or may be.
His attribute of Life is without beginning, end, body, soul, change or development.
He must be All-Hearing and All-Seeing, not by ability, but by necessity; without instruments, such as eyes or ears; or needs, such as sound waves or light rays; or events, such as hearing or seeing one thing and then another.
He must also have Speech that is not created and is therefore not language, sounds, letters, sequence, or a capacity; for all such attributes must have a beginning and therefore a creator.
It is impossible that Allah be attributed with the opposites of any of the above, such as being a body, in a place, or having a limit or a weakness, such as ignorance, death, deafness, blindness or speechlessness.
It is possible, however, that Allah creates anything that can exist, or leaves it.
He is the Creator of all beings, things and actions and thus the Absolute Owner of everything.
It is impossible that He could be unjust or unfair, as He has no creator, and therefore no judge.

I’m glad to walk into your blog. May God reward you with this noble effort.
I’ve been attending weekend lessons on Fiqh, Tauhid and Tasawwuf, and update my blog with what I learned. I was borm Muslim, but only joined the the traditional lessons about 2 yrs ago (and really thankful to God that he showed the way).
In my case it’s not so easy to translate from the old Malay kitabs to English, so probably I’ll refer to your Islamic terms in future.

Most arabic words in the site can be put in the glossary. Definitions and short explanations (or summary) will greatly help. The purpose of this is that when readers read the article, they can quickly refer to glossary page by a click or so without looking at wikipedia (which is not a good source to look at) or doing long search. Just my humble suggestion and I know that this will take tons of time and I pray that Allah will greatly reward all of you guys in the efforts.
Example: bila kayf, bid’ah, ta’weel, tashbeeh, mutashabihat, Mu’tazilah, Qadariyah, Athari, Ash’ari, ijtihad, mujtahid, fiqh, to name a few.

No, I am not one of them. I have studied their positions and found them AsħˆAriyys in general. I do not agree with all of their positions or opinions. When it comes to your expression takfiiriyy, I should make it clear that I am not takfiiriyy, i.e. I do not agree with sloppiness in attributing kufr to someone. It should be noted that attributing kufr to a kaafir does not make one takfiiriyy, especially not the muˆtazilah and mujassimah.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to study aqia to a high level. I am a full-time student (shari’a) student and have studied Aqida al-Tahwiyya, al_fari’id al-Hisan, Daw al-ma’ali, sharh al-Sawi on the jawhara, Umm al-barahin, a lot of Bajuris sharh of the jawhara, and sharh al-‘aqaid al-Nasafiyya, as well as having read around the subject a bit.
Which texts would recommend for me?

Answer: If it is sound reason, then it must be correct, and cannot be wrong, so what is the meaning of this restriction?
Wahabi comments: Allah says He has a Ruh.
Answer: Unlike what christians believe, He does not say it is an attribute or a part. He has a ruh that is other than Him that He has created and owns. Some say it is the Angel Jibriil.
Wahabi comments: So He has speech, except that His speech is not sound, letters, language, sequence. Therefore, speech that is characterized with these attributes is called “speechlessness” i.e. NON speech.
Anwer: Therefore? Where is the logical argument to show that speech must have sound and sequence? Sound, sequence and so on are means for communicating speech, they are not the only concepts that the word speech applies to. The most fundamental meaning of speech is the meanings that are communicated, and those are neither sound, nor sequence.
Wahabi comments: I wonder what mumbo jumbo (in the spirit of kalam nafsi) was Allah speaking when He spoke to Musa. Allah spoke to Musa in a language, in a point in time, with speech that is heard, with a beginning and an end, in sequence, with letters.
Answer: Letters and sounds in sequence are things that have a beginning and end to their existence. This means they must be brought into existence according to a specification. This means again that they are created, because the creation’s need for a creator comes from its need to be specified and brought into existence.
In the case of Muusaa, it is his ability to hear Allaah’s Speech (which is not letters or sounds or sequence) that begins and ends, not Allaah’s Speech. Muusaa understood from it what Allaah had willed for him to understand.
Wahabi comments: “11. It is possible, however, that Allah creates anything that can exist, or leaves it.” huh, what kinda of aqidah point is that. Who on earth benefits their creed with this point.
Answer: Muslims must believe that Allaah is the creator of everything, as stated in the Qur’aan, and that He is not obliged to create anything. These are actually major points of belief, but who am I addressing to know?

The idea of Allaah having a limit is not something that can exist. If you said that He had a limit, then His existence would be created, or part created, and since He is not created at all, you cannot say that He can have a limit. Or in other words, since Allaah is not created, His existence is not something that needs specification, and since a limit needs specification in terms of size and shape, He cannot be something that has a limit. Why? Because you cannot say that His existence is both possible (and thus in need of prior specification) and necessary (and thus not in need of prior specification), as these are opposites. The existence of something is either possible or necessary, it cannot be both. So when when we say “anything that can exist” we mean something possible, not something that already exists, because since it already exists, it would be nonsense to say that it can be brought into existence – because it already exists, so what on Earth would that mean? We also mean something that can be specified, so that we can define what it is we are asking about the existence of. So for example, three people that are not people would be not something specifiable, because “people” and “not people” is self contradictory, and therefore impossible in the mind’s eye. A perfectly round square would be another example of the impossible – it has no definable meaning or specification.
Since a limited existence must be specified, it must be created, and since Allaah is not created, it is non-sense to say that Allaah could have a limit. It is like saying that Allaah could be created, when you have already said that He is not created. You are asking for a perfectly square circle.

A great job by the Shaikh but It will be more helpful for people like me with less knowledge to understand all the logic without some smilies or simple examples. Often the wahhabis misguide or explain their understanding with a hadith or a verse of the Quran followed by a simple statement that this was the understanding/opinion of the salaf and any thing against it is false/misguided. For example I could understand the Infinite regress only after reading the responses at the Islamic awakening forum and then reading Shaikh’s replies here.
May Allah preserve the Shaikh and the people of knowledge for the benefit of the Ahle Sunnah.

I’ll of course gladly do anything that will make things clearer. If you could be more specific about where you need examples, it would be helpful. I did give two, one of them was square circle. Mind you, the concepts of intrinsically possible and intrinsically necessary existence are very abstract, and although it takes a paragraph or two to explain them, to really understand you really need to read slowly and make sure you understand every sentence before you go to the next. It is two paragraphs, but give it the time of 20 paragraphs. That being said, if you can help me reduce them from 20 to 5, or even ten, please give me your ideas. At least tell me, where do you start to feel lost?

On page 24 of the translation of the sanusiyah creed, I think there is a typing error. You said that it is impossible for prophets to have the opposite of these attributes by lying and treachery. I think the word “opposite” shouild be ommitted because the opposite of lying and treachery is truthfullness, and prophets are truthful.

You have misread it. The statements says that lying and treachery are “the opposites of these attributes” i.e. of necessary prophetic attributes.
